Overview
Our client is an innovative engineering business developing advanced clean energy technology. As they move into an exciting prototype and development phase, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development and build of complex mechanical systems.
This is a hands-on contract role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys detailed design work and wants to see their designs through manufacture, assembly and testing.
The Role
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll be responsible for the detailed design of mechanical components and assemblies, taking ownership from concept through to prototype build. You'll work closely with manufacturing and test teams to ensure designs are practical, robust and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed mechanical designs using CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX).
- Design and integrate fluid systems, including pipework, tubing, hoses and associated mechanical components.
- Develop sheet metal components, welded fabrications and structural assemblies.
- Produce high-quality CAD models, drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Support prototype builds and resolve engineering issues during assembly and testing.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and test engineers to drive design improvements.
- Take ownership of your designs throughout the full product development lifecycle.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven Mechanical Design Engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency with CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX).
- Experience designing and integrating complex mechanical or fluid systems.
- Experience with detailed design rather than high-level system layouts or P&IDs.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DfM).
- Experience supporting products through prototype build and testing.
Desirable
- Mechanical "plumbing" experience, including:
- Pneumatics
- Hydraulics
- Engine fluid systems
- Experience designing:
- Sheet metal components
- Welded frames and fabrications
- Mechanical assemblies
