We are seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to support high-profile engineering programmes within the Aerospace & Defence sector.
You will contribute to the design, development, and integration of complex mechanical systems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, compliant, and manufacturable solutions across the full product lifecycle.
This role offers exposure to critical programmes, innovative technologies, and a collaborative engineering environment aligned with leading UK defence organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools
- Produce detailed engineering drawings in line with applicable standards (e.g. BS, ISO, ASME)
- Support concept development, detailed design, and design maturation activities
- Perform tolerance analysis and ensure design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA)
- Work closely with systems, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure design integration
- Support design reviews (PDR, CDR) and provide technical input to stakeholders
- Contribute to verification and validation activities, including testing and analysis
- Manage design changes, technical documentation, and configuration control processes
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal engineering governance
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical design within regulated industries (e.g. Aerospace, Defence, Automotive)
- Strong proficiency with CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX)
- Experience producing 2D drawings and 3D models to a high standard
- Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical principles
- Experience working within structured engineering lifecycle frameworks (V-model)
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into design solutions
- Familiarity with configuration management and design change processes
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams

Desirable Skills
- Experience with defence standards and programmes (e.g. MOD environment)
- Knowledge of FEA / simulation tools (e.g. ANSYS, Abaqus)
- Understanding of environmental and qualification testing (shock, vibration, thermal)
- Experience with PLM tools (e.g. Windchill, Teamcenter)
- Awareness of safety-critical design considerations
- Previous experience working on complex systems integration programmes
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (SC)
