A Mechanical Design Engineer is required to perform design engineering activities for new build projects, joining a global AWS engineering team responsible for designing and innovating mechanical services systems that support Amazon’s rapidly expanding data centre footprint across the EMEA region.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will:

Your role will include leading teams to define critical equipment specifications, manage design consultancy firms, and ensure compliance with public utility requirements and building codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Lead design efforts for mechanical systems from concept to permit and construction documentation.
- Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with internal/external stakeholders, including utilities, manufacturers, contractors, and commissioning teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
