Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Yeovil, Somerset
Rate: Up to £46 per hour (depending on experience)
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading aerospace engineering organisation based in Yeovil. This is an excellent opportunity to work on innovative aerospace projects, contributing to the design and development of advanced mechanical systems within a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop concept designs supported by engineering analysis.
- Produce detailed mechanical designs using 2D and 3D CAD.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, drawing packs, and supporting documentation.
- Carry out tolerance analysis and process engineering changes.
- Liaise with Production Engineering and Production Planning to ensure designs are optimised for manufacture.
- Deliver engineering projects in line with agreed schedules and project milestones.
- Work in accordance with engineering procedures, standards, and best practices.

Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2+ years' experience in mechanical design, ideally involving precision components.
- Experience using 3D CAD, preferably Siemens NX.
- Competent in both 2D and 3D CAD.
- Basic understanding of Configuration Control.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Understanding of machining, manufacturing techniques, and design for manufacture principles.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills with a customer-focused and results-driven approach.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, multi-project engineering environment.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred but not essential.
- Candidates with relevant engineering experience and a strong technical background will also be considered.
- Experience designing small, fine-tolerance mechanical components is desirable.
