Job Description
Motorola Solutions seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Silent Sentinel team, supporting the development of innovative projects.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, capable of working independently with confidence while confidently seeking support when needed. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders will be essential as you help produce reliable products and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design enclosures and mechanisms suitable for harsh operating environments, including:
- -40°C temperatures
- Marine conditions
- MIL-STD specifications
- Create CAD designs in SolidWorks, translating them into:
- 2D technical drawings
- Bill of Materials (BoM)
- Clear build guides and documentation for production teams
- Oversee drawing reviews prior to manufacturing to ensure accuracy and legality
- Conduct prototype inspections and provide production troubleshooting support
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of design integrity through:
- FEA analysis (advantageous)
- Thermal simulation (advantageous)
- Calculated engineering justification

Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- SolidWorks expertise:
- 3D modelling
- 2D technical drawing production
- BoM generation
- Familiarity with:
- Material properties
- Manufacturing techniques
- Plating methods, coatings, and fasteners
- Travel readiness:
- Frequent short-notice travel between Ware (headquarters) and Sandy (machine shop)
- Written & oral communication skills:
- Ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation
- Self-motivated yet collaborative:
- Must thrive independently while working effectively in a team
- Problem-solving mindset:
- Ability to think pragmatically when troubleshooting design and manufacturing issues
- Design-for-manufacture proficiency
- Assessment considerations (advantageous):
- Ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing designs
- Experience with IP ratings and IP67 sealing methods
- Proactive product quality assurance via testing
- Demonstrable ability to justify designs through analysis and calculations
- (Bonus Advantage) Experience with FEA and thermal simulation
