You:

  • Have 2–5 years of mechanical engineering experience, with familiarity across the full product development cycle from prototypes through DFM to production handoff
  • Enjoy prototyping, building, and debugging mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Have hands-on experience with sheet metal, machined parts, injection molding, and motion stages
  • Thrive as a self-starter and work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Can quickly and efficiently leverage CAD (SolidWorks or Onshape) for complex design

The Role

You’ll be responsible for designing and building motion components and enclosures along with integrating electrical and optical components for new product development. This role will take our current functional prototypes through industrial design and DFM and will be involved in handoff to production. This position reports to the Principal Design Engineer and works alongside several R&D engineers on the project.

  • Learn the ins and outs of our current prototypes, becoming the go-to person for resolving hardware issues and requests from our R&D team
  • Begin designing the next set of prototypes incorporating new features and resolving issues

  • Sourced parts, assembled, and tested the next set of prototypes, successfully handing them off to our internal teams for R&D and algorithms development
  • Created a bill of materials, keeping an eye on cost and ease of sourcing
  • Refined the design to meet end user product requirements and integrate custom electronics

In one year, you will have…

  • Documented assembly processes and worked out any issues
  • Successfully transferred the product to the assembly line
  • Begun work developing prototypes for a new product line

Location and Additional Information

  • This is a full-time position, fully on-site in Cambridge, MA, accessible by car, bike, and bus
  • Salary range of $90,000 to $110,000 depending on the candidate
