Mechanical Responsible Engineer

Job title: Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE)
Job Type: Contract
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Long-term 12-month rolling contract (expected through to 2028/29)
Pay rate: Competitive DOE – Umbrella rates of pay
Location: Sellafield / Whitehaven
Hybrid/Remote Working: Hybrid – minimum 3 days per week on site/office
Hours of work: 40 hours per

Role information

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) to support a major engineering programme within a highly regulated nuclear environment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, compliance, and configuration control of engineering deliverables while supporting key project objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring plans, drawings, and quantities are accurate and suitable for engineering calculations
  • Managing engineering documentation, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Maintaining configuration control of engineering deliverables
  • Liaising with designers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with engineering and construction requirements
  • Providing progress updates and technical support throughout project delivery
  • Supporting design and constructability reviews
  • Utilising AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D scanning software to support design development and site data capture
  • Identifying and resolving technical challenges whilst effectively prioritising workload

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience operating as a Responsible Engineer (RE) / SQEP
  • Strong knowledge of plant systems within operational or nuclear environments
  • Experience using Sellafield systems, including CIMAGE
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and multidisciplinary team working experience
  • Proactive and solution-focused approach
  • Previous Sellafield experience and site pass desirable
  • UK National Security Vetting Status – SC Clearance in place or ability to obtain SC Clearance
