We are seeking to employ a Mechanical Engineer to work in our London office.

Hilson Moran are interdisciplinary consultants, engineers and advisors, applying progressive design thinking to shape the environments we live in. We provide a full range of engineering services, exciting innovation and design solutions on a wide range of projects from across our network of offices in the UK. Our projects span the globe, from World Cup stadiums in the Middle East and landmarks in London, to luxury hotels in New York and development projects in India.

Our recently refurbished London office – the Living Lab – offers a direct link to clients, the ability to further develop our existing relationships and to pursue future opportunities across the city. We also have full view of some of our most iconic designs, including 20 Fenchurch Street ‘the Walkie Talkie’ and 30 St Mary’s Axe ‘The Gherkin’ from our river café space.

We are seeking to employ an proactive and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding team in London.

As an experienced professional who ideally holds professional accreditation or is actively pursuing it, you will bring an extensive portfolio demonstrating your expertise and capabilities.

You will deliver your design services within a diverse and challenging range of design projects. Your project range Will vary, demonstrating experience across a range of different scales, complexity, sectors, and geographies.

Your Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Working alongside project leads, managing small individual projects while supporting project coordination.
  • Deliver a range of large complex and niche projects to small ‘Engineering only’ technical projects on time and to the highest technical standard along with management support.
  • Provide the highest technical and quality standards in all design deliverables. This includes thoroughly reviewing design documents, specifications, and drawings to identify and rectify any discrepancies or errors.
  • Collaborate closely with your project team and lead the implementation of quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations and the client’s expectations are aligned.
  • Coordinate with clients to address quality-related concerns and ensure that all project milestones are met with the highest precision and accuracy.
  • Assist the project lead in ensuring all additional work undertaken is appropriately identified, and additional fees are claimed where appropriate.
  • Contributes to successfully executing projects and supporting clients in achieving their objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Reviews resources and advises seniors of potential resource issues.
  • Coordinate with the Digital team to ensure that project information is of an appropriate standard, in line with Hilson Moran’s digitalisation process.
  • Contribute to innovative ideas and solutions to improve design processes and outcome.
  • If applicable, where you require a licence and or certification, stay abreast of the responsibilities of keeping your professional development aligned with the institute’s requirements.

We’d like to hear from you if you have

Background & Qualifications

  • MSc or BSc in Environmental or Engineering discipline. Should be a Chartered Engineer or possess the desire to become Chartered by CIBSE or IMechE.
  • Have mechanical design engineering experience at a Senior level, working on commercial (new build, refurbishments and fit out) developments.
  • Experienced in laboratories, light industrial, and/or hotel developments.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies.
  • Understanding of sustainable building design, renewable and low carbon technology.
  • In-depth understanding of the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Services Engineering Systems including their performance, application and operation, gained in a design office.
  • Be a proactive, adaptable, and approachable engineer with excellent client facing and communication skills at all levels and takes the initiative. Experience of D&B projects would be an advantage.
  • Analytical skills to influence the drive for continuous improvement.

  • Proficient with solid communication skills, including presentation skills for internal and external meetings.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in required software.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems efficiently.
  • Effectively manages time and priorities. Ensures that information presented to your key contacts within your team meets an appropriate standard and is within the allocated timeframe.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders through professional communication and responsiveness.
