Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 per year (dependent on experience)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Objectives of the Role
Concept Projects Group is seeking a proactive and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering project team. This varied, hands-on role involves supporting diverse projects across multiple industrial and blue-chip client sites, primarily in the Wirral and wider North West.
The role will see shifts between practical site work (installation support, modifications, equipment handling, project delivery) and more detailed mechanical engineering tasks (problem-solving, design, fabrication, and technical support from concept to installation).
The successful candidate must excel in fast-paced environments, from FMCG, food production, and pharmaceutical to construction, manufacturing, and wider industrial sectors.
Responsibilities
- Support mechanical activities across industrial and blue-chip client sites, collaborating with Project Managers, clients, and site teams
- Deliver practical mechanical engineering solutions, including:
- Design-to-installation projects
- Equipment maintenance, repair, and modification
- Perform repair and overhaul work on motors, pumps, valves, bearings, shafts, and rotating mechanical systems
- Execute tasks such as fitting, fabrication, benchwork, assembly, and modification while consulting technical drawings
- Work on site utilities, including compressed air, steam, and water systems (within expertise and design limits)
- Operate or support workshop and fabrication equipment, such as cutting, welding, drilling, and machining tools
- Use or be trained to use plant and access equipment, including FLTs ( Falls Arrest Lifts ), MEWPs ( Mobile Elevated Work Platforms ), and scissor lifts
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, client protocols, company procedures, and industry regulations

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
