Mechanical Engineer
Job Title: Device Development Engineer
About the Role
You will contribute to the design, development, and verification of medical devices for inhaled medicines, spanning from early conceptual stages to late-stage validation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Translating requirements into specifications
- Developing components and prototypes
- Conducting analyses and testing
- Ensuring regulatory and quality compliance
You’ll help strengthen internal capabilities, collaborate across sites and external partners, and drive the technical excellence of the Device Development Department.

The Device Development Department is a multidisciplinary engineering team specialising in inhalation-based medical devices. Operated in a flexible, collaborative environment, the team values:

What You Will Do
Core Responsibilities
- Design Translation
- Convert design inputs into clear, actionable specifications for devices, components, test equipment, and processes.
- CAD & Prototyping
- Use CAD (preferably Creo) and engineering design skills to create components, functional prototypes, and test rigs.
- Testing & Analysis
- Plan, execute, and interpret empirical testing, development analyses, and data assessments.
- Produce clear technical reports with findings.
- Documentation
- Author specifications, verification plans, protocols, and validation/test-method documentation.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Apply standards such as ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and 21 CFR 820.30 to ensure compliant device development.
- Continuous Improvement
- Enhance internal practices, support capability-building, and collaborate effectively across teams and partners.

Desirable (Experienced-Level)
- Review and approve design, specification, validation, and risk-management documentation.
- Provide technical direction and demonstrate expertise in device design/development.
- Present technical reports at design reviews.
- Apply deep knowledge of:
- Medical device development
- Mechanics & fluid mechanics
- Plastics, manufacturing, and prototyping
- Use advanced tools such as LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, and Creo workflows.
- Mentor junior engineers and elevate team capability.

What Will Put You Ahead
- Recognised expertise in device design/development in one or more areas.
- Strong testing, data interpretation, and technical reporting skills.
- Experience with LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, or Creo.
- Deep understanding of:
- Medical device development
- Mechanics, plastics, and manufacturing technologies
- Proven ability to mentor others and elevate team capabilities.
- A degree (2:1 or above) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design.
