Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Pitstone, Buckinghamshire (On-site 5 days)

Are you a senior, hands-on Mechanical Engineer looking for a high-impact contract where your expertise shapes real outcomes?


The Opportunity

You are offered a 12-month Inside IR35 contract in Pitstone, joining an advanced technical team delivering Through Life Support (TLS) value in a safety-critical engineering environment. This role suits engineers passionate about problem-solving, shaping technical direction, and influencing engineering, production, and quality decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Represent Engineering in Level 1 & 2 QRQC meetings, providing clear technical direction and confident decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with OE (Original Equipment) and MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as the senior engineering point of contact across production, suppliers, assembly, and testing teams.

Production & Through Life Support

  • Support production teams to meet demanding build schedules through rapid engineering issue resolution.
  • Lead engineering investigations, delivering clear analyses and robust corrective actions.
  • Maintain persistence and technical depth under high-pressure, complex engineering challenges.

Design, Validation & Optimisation

  • Translate customer and internal requirements into robust mechanical designs.
  • Apply calculations, analysis, and validation tools to verify and refine solutions.
  • Optimise designs for manufacture, assembly, cost, and quality.

Continuous Improvement & Governance

  • Lead detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities and drive corrective actions.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement—technically and behaviourally.
  • Author, review, and approve engineering documentation throughout the TLS phase.
  • Contribute to and report against KPIs and budget targets.

Required Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong background in designing complex electromechanical products within regulated industries (e.g., aerospace).
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems and deliver practical, high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication—engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and production methods.
  • Experience leading investigations, RCA, and design assurance activities.

Highly Desirable

  • Familiarity with rotating machinery (motors, generators).
  • Experience across R&T (Research & Technology), R&D, and NPI (New Product Introduction).
  • Strong CAD/PLM skills (e.g., NX, CATIA, Teamcenter, Windchill).
  • Ability to interpret & challenge technical analyses (FEA, thermal, bearings, manual calculations).
