Opportunity overview

We have secured partnership on a new AMP8 framework with United Utilities, extending our collaboration for at least the next five years. This £3bn+ North West England infrastructure programme focuses on:

  • Upgrading wastewater treatment works
  • Reducing storm overflows through the UK’s largest spill reduction programme
  • Protecting 500km+ of rivers and bathing waters

Mechanical Engineer

You'll contribute to transformational water-related projects that directly impact communities and the environment. Our UK water market clients rely on us for end-to-end services—from feasibility through to design, construction, and commissioning.

As the Mechanical Engineer, you'll bring projects to life by shaping their mechanical functions, ensuring seamless integration across system lifecycles. Responsibilities include:

  • Detail-oriented design of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, including:
    • Process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Valve schedules and pump calculations
    • Hazardous area classifications and safe access provisions
    • Above-ground pipework layout coordination
  • Coordinating cross-discipline teams (Electrical, Civil, Geotech, and Process) to ensure designs meet programme, budget, and quality targets
  • Collaborating with commercial, safety, and construction teams to deliver practical, safe, and efficient solutions
  • Building stakeholder relationships and adopting a ‘one-team’ culture while effectively communicating client expectations

Key responsibilities

  • Development and technical leadership in water treatment projects
  • Design delivery (concept through handover) with focus on mechanical engineering integrity
  • Alignment of designs with regulatory, safety, and commercial requirements
  • Embedding a risk-mitigated, sustainable approach into projects

About the role

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Manchester.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an associated discipline
  • Working towards IEng or CEng registration
  • Valid UK drive licence (site travel required)

  • Strong problem-solving approach
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders
  • Capacity to work within multi-disciplinary frameworks
