Mechanical Engineer – Sting Ray

Location: Portsmouth Broad Oak – Hybrid Flexible working options available – discuss with the recruiter.

Salary: Up to £45,500 depending on experience

Job Description

You will take on a technical engineering role focused on electro-mechanical aspects of hardware obsolescence and design, supporting the Return to Manufacture Lead Engineer and the Sting Ray Mod-2 teams.

Core Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Sting Ray Mod 2 (SRM2) Design Team to align Sting Ray Mid Life Upgrade and SRM2 All Up Round, minimising design discrepancies
  • Drive obsolescence resolution for legacy elements of the SRM2 torpedo via:
    • New design activities
    • New procurement processes
    • Component certification
  • Work with supply chain to reinstate manufacturing and procurement of legacy SRM2 torpedo components
  • Support internal and supplier verification, including:
    • Analysis, inspection, and testing
    • Environmental qualification
    • Product installation activities
  • Generate technical documentation, including:
    • Reports
    • Design documents
    • Specifications
    • Procurement release artefacts
  • Contribute to issue identification and resolution across the entire product lifecycle, managing required changes

Essential Skills

  • Professional qualification or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline
  • Engineering principles, processes, and procedures expertise
  • Mechanical engineering knowledge covering:
    • Assembly, system, and subsystem design
    • Design for manufacturability and quality
    • Seamless transition to full-scale production
  • Sting Ray Mod-2 Team Overview

You’ll join a dedicated underwater weapons team, specialising in weapon system upgrades and redesigns. Your role will involve:

  • Addressing obsolescence and technical challenges across All-Up-Round phases
  • Collaborating with technical experts, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain
