About the Role
The UK water sector is undergoing unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis scales its Water Business in the UK, we’re seeking talented Mechanical Engineers to deliver technically robust, sustainable, and innovative treatments solutions across major national projects.
You’ll join a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and help establish our UK Mechanical Engineering capability, leveraging Egis’ global expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to mechanical design packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline, and detailed design for UK water/wastewater treatment projects.
- Develop mechanical calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, technical notes, P&IDs, layouts, drawings, and procurement documentation under senior guidance.
- Support equipment sizing and selection for assets including:
- Pumps
- Pipework, tanks, valves
- Penstocks, screens, grit removal plant
- Odour control systems, lifting equipment, packaged plant
- Conduct site visits, asset surveys, and data collection, engaging with operators, suppliers, and technology providers.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (Process, EICA, civil/structural, architectural, construction) for streamlined design solutions.
- Contribute to CDM/safety-by-design reviews, design risk assessments, constructability reviews, and commissioning/handover support.
- Apply digital tools (spreadsheets, models, data analysis) to enhance design quality, efficiency, and consistency.
- Adhere to scope, budget, and programme, escalating risks and issues early.

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
- BEng/MEng or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 4+ years’ relevant mechanical engineering design experience, preferably in:
- Water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources, or oil & gas.
- Experience preparing mechanical design deliverables, including:
- Calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, reports, drawings, procurement documentation.
- Strong technical understanding of:
- Mechanical equipment, pumping systems, pipework, valves, and treatment/process plant.
- Knowledge of CDM/safety-by-design, design risk management, and quality assurance processes.
- Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, ensuring buildable and maintainable solutions.
- Digital proficiency (Excel, design tools, modelling/drawing software).
- Willingness to travel to operational sites, construction projects, and supplier facilities as required.
Desirable Skills/Knowledge
- Experience in:
- Municipal water treatment, wastewater treatment, sludge/bioresources, water reuse, pumping stations, package plants.
- Familiarity with:
- AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B, framework, or alliance delivery environments.
- Expertise in:
- Pump selection, headloss calculations, hydraulic analysis, P&IDs, WIMES-style datasheets.
- 3D/BIM coordination or digital design tools.
- IEng/CEng professional development towards chartership with a body such as IMechE.
