Role Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering and maintenance team at a chemical manufacturing facility in Llanelli, where you’ll drive asset reliability, continuous improvement, and mechanical integrity across the site.
In this hands-on technical role, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations in a hazardous process environment. Ideal for someone passionate about reliability, problem-solving, and operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and implement plant reliability and maintenance improvements to prevent failures and optimise performance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using KPIs to enhance efficiency, planning, and work quality
- Provide technical support and coaching to technicians, contractors, and the maintenance team
- Maintain technical documentation, including:
- Manuals
- Procedures
- Risk assessments
- Maintenance records
- Own and optimise preventative and condition-based maintenance (e.g., vibration analysis, oil sampling)
- Manage mechanical spare parts inventory, balancing availability, cost, and lead times
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and technical regulations, including auditing maintenance activities
- Collaborate with Operations to diagnose faults and resolve problems
- Contribute to Management of Change (MOC) processes and participate in:
- HAZOP studies
- Commissioning and equipment trials
- Support capital projects by providing input on:
- Design
- Equipment selection
- Commissioning activities
- Ensure compliance with pressure systems and statutory inspections
- Manage and supervise external contractors to guarantee safety and technical compliance

Experience and Competencies
We’re looking for candidates with:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
- Proven experience in a chemical (or COMAH) or complex manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical asset integrity and reliability engineering principles
- Experience using CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo)
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance and condition monitoring techniques
- Experience working in safety-critical and hazardous environments
- An advantage provided by ATEX environment experience
- Desirable: Chartership (or IMechE accreditation in progress)
