The Mechanical Estates Officer
The Mechanical Estates Officer is a technical specialist role providing Authorised Person cover and specialist technical assurance for the Trust’s mechanical building services. The post holder does not hold formal line management responsibility; instead, they provide technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on expertise to Operations trade staff and contractors working within mechanical disciplines.
The post holder will act as Authorised Person for one or more mechanical specialisms (for example heating and ventilation, water safety, medical gas pipeline systems, or pressurised systems) as determined by service need and individual competency sign-off, supporting the Senior Mechanical Manager in ensuring mechanical systems remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across all Trust sites.
The role contributes technical expertise to planned and reactive maintenance, capital and small works interfaces, and the Trust’s Integrated Management System (IMS), working closely with the Operations team, contractors, and specialist suppliers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
