Job Title: Mechanical Estimator
📍 Cambridge — Office Based
💰 Up to £60,000 | Permanent | Full-time
About the Role
We are working with a well-established, privately owned M&E contractor based in Cambridge who have been trading since 1953, making them one of the most experienced and trusted mechanical and electrical contractors in the East of England.
They are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Estimator to join their estimating team permanently. This is a genuine opportunity to join a stable, long-standing business with a strong reputation for quality, repeat business and long-term client relationships across both the public and private sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate mechanical estimates and tender submissions
- Carry out mechanical take-offs from drawings and specifications
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
- Liaise with clients, main contractors and consultants throughout the tender process
- Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings where required
- Identify project risks and opportunities at tender stage
- Work closely with project managers and the delivery team throughout the bid process

What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within an established M&E contractor
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services including HVAC, pipework, public health and heating systems
- Experience pricing work across commercial, public sector or industrial projects
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously
- Relevant mechanical qualifications such as NVQ, HNC or HND desirable
