Mechanical Maintenance Technician

- Permanent, Full-Time Role – Deritend, Birmingham

About Deritend and the Role

Deritend, part of the Rubix Group, was founded in 1898 and specializes in enhancing industrial asset performance. With over 3,500 customers across the UK—including blue-chip brands and top manufacturers worldwide—we excel in maintaining and optimising equipment such as:

  • Motors
  • Gearboxes
  • Pumps
  • Machining induction
  • Condition monitoring
  • Fabrication services

You’ll play a central role in preserving critical industrial machinery, ensuring seamless production and reducing downtime.


Key Responsibilities

  • Disassembly & Reassembly

    • Carry out precise disassembly and reconstruct procedures on industrial rotating equipment.
  • Maintenance & Upkeep

    • Conduct planned and predictive maintenance to prevent failures.
    • Assess spares needs and procured replacements when required.
    • Undertake rectification of faulty or worn components, leveraging mechanical expertise in reclamation and reverse engineering.

  • Equipment & Process Optimisation

    • Prioritise and plan workloads efficiently.
    • Optimise resource allocation for cost-effective operations.
    • Advocate continuous improvement in processes and standards.
  • Roles Scope

    • Maintain health and safety compliance, including strict adherence to legislation, company policies and procedures.
    • Complete detailed documentation for stock control and fault reporting.
    • Collaborate with other teams (e.g., coordinators) to clarify equipment requirements.
    • Retake self-development training as necessary to uphold performance.
  • On-Site & Adaptability

    • Devote time to onsite work alongside workshop-based tasks with frequent travel as needed. (components of a suitable CCNSG safety certification would be advantageous)
    • Rotate shifts (including evenings and weekends) if callouts arise in this 24/7 service-driven environment.
    • Work both as a team and independently, demonstrating initiative.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering Expertise

    • Strong background in diagnosis, repair and maintenance of rotating industrial equipment.
  • Hands-On Experience

    • Hands-on experience (recommended) in managing repair tasks, troubleshooting and working across a workshop and industrial site.
  • Safety Culture

    • Prioritise safe working practices at all times, with knowledge of hazard awareness.
  • Team Collaboration & Independence

    • Adaptability to work independently yet seamlessly within collaborative settings.
