Mechanical Maintenance Professional Role – Gates

About the Role

Gates pushes the boundaries of material science to engineer solutions that exceed customer expectations—think belts, hoses, steam systems, hydraulic and pneumatic valves, and more. Found in everything from motorcycles and conveyor belts to cars, tractors, blenders, vacuum cleaners, bicycles, and 3D printers.

What to Expect

  • Responsible for safe, compliant, and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems through reactive and proactive maintenance.
  • Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts
  • Salary: £55,531.94 per year (gross)
  • Benefits:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute reactive and proactive maintenance across facilities, prioritising compliance and safety.
  • Maintain mechanical plant equipment and process machinery, including:
    • Lifting equipment
    • High-pressure steam systems
    • Boilers
    • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Conduct mechanical breakdown repairs ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Manage boiler operations and high-pressure steam systems in compliance with safety standards.
  • Support and mentor apprentices in safety, compliance, and best practices.
  • Proactively report safety and operational concerns to ensure environment safety.

What Success Looks Like

Keys to Qualification

  • Entry-level position with licenses/training certifications.
  • Basic analytical/technical process skills.

Supervisory Guidelines

  • Applies analytical/technical skills in routine activities.
  • Understands work flow and cross-team integrations.
  • Follows standard operating procedures to solve basic issues.
  • Maintains implementation and quality of tasks.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and courtesy.

Requirements & Preferred Skills

Essential

  • City & Guilds or HNC-qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Time-served mechanical fitter with post-qualification experience, preferably in manufacturing.
