Mechanical Fitter
Manchester
£40,000 to £45,000 (dependent on experience)
I am currently working with a well-established manufacturing plant that is looking to strengthen its maintenance team with the addition of an experienced Mechanical Fitter.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. The Mechanical Fitter will be working on a wide range of mechanical equipment and supporting the reliability and performance of the plant. The role is ideal for a time-served Mechanical Fitter who enjoys fault finding, maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the manufacturing facility, ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting production targets.

The Mechanical Fitter will work on a variety of heavy industrial machinery and equipment, playing a key role in maintaining plant performance and safety standards.
Responsibilities of the Mechanical Fitter
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults across manufacturing equipment
- Maintain and overhaul pumps, valves, pipework, and associated equipment
- Conduct equipment inspections and reliability improvement activities
- Support plant shutdowns and maintenance projects
- Complete maintenance documentation and work orders
- Work closely with production teams to minimize downtime
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures including permit to work systems and lock out/tag out procedures

Requirements of the Mechanical Fitter
- Apprentice Trained Mechanical Fitter
- At least 2 years’ Mechanical Fitting experience
- Experience working within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
- Strong Mechanical fault finding and repair skills
- Experience maintaining pumps and valves
- Experience carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures within an industrial environment
