The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the capability and readiness of critical defence assets. This is hands-on engineering with purpose—where your technical expertise helps maintain the safety and performance of essential equipment across the site. You’ll work within our STAT Test team, carrying out mechanical testing, inspections, and repairs that contribute directly to national security.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance across mechanical systems and equipment
  • Identifying and resolving defects, faults, and alterations across a range of assets
  • Following established processes and recommending improvements to enhance productivity
  • Working safely within Health & Safety, Safe Systems of Work and BM&T Clyde policies
  • Carrying out manual work, including lifting, bending, using tools and standing for extended periods

This full-time role is 36 hours per week (Monday to Thursday), providing a three-day weekend every week. The position is based on-site at HMNB Faslane.


Essential Experience & Qualifications of the Mechanical Fitter

  • Proven mechanical fitting experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge and experience of pressure systems

Qualifications:

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical discipline

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
