Mechanical Maintenance Professional – Gates

What to Expect
As an experienced Mechanical Maintenance professional, you will ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems through both reactive and proactive maintenance activities.

- Salary: £55,531.94 (gross per year)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out reactive and proactive maintenance across local facilities, with a strong focus on compliance and safety.
- Maintain mechanical plant equipment and process machinery, including:
- Lifting equipment
- High-pressure steam systems
- Boilers
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Perform mechanical breakdown repairs on all plant and process equipment to ensure minimal downtime and operational continuity.
- Oversee boiler operations and high-pressure steam systems, strictly adhering to safety standards and regulations.
- Support and mentor apprentices, promoting safety, compliance, and best practices in mechanical maintenance.
- Proactively report any safety or operational concerns to line management to maintain a safe working environment at all times.

Keys to Success
This is an entry-level position requiring:
- Appropriate licenses or training certifications
- Basic skills in analytical or technical processes
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Applies basic analytical and technical skills to perform routine activities.
- Understands the relationship of assigned tasks to the broader team and how the team integrates with other functions.
- Follows standard operating procedures to guide work and solve routine problems.
- Impacts quality of work personally.
- Uses communication skills and courtesy to exchange information effectively.
Requirements & Preferred Skills
Essential
- City & Guilds or HNC-qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Time-served mechanical fitter with post-qualification experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in:
- Steam systems
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Fire prevention systems
- Strong fault-finding and preventative maintenance skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and understand complex mechanical systems.
- Clear communication across all levels of the engineering team.
- Organised and solutions-focused approach.
