Mechanical Fitter, Apprentice
6-Year Apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance (Test Centre)
About the Role
We are offering a 6-year apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance, based at our Test Centre, with integrated further education up to HNC/HND level. This opportunity includes:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Support senior engineers in troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
- Apply technical knowledge gained from HNC/HND studies to practical plant floor operations
- Strictly adhere to health, safety, and environmental guidelines
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide documentation assistance
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and stay updated on new technologies
- Demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm, and commitment throughout the 6-year training programme

An successful candidate must be able to:
- Perform entry-level tasks with relevant licenses/training certifications
- Have basic analytical or technical skills
- Apply technical proficiencies to routine maintenance duties
- Understand task relationships within the team and broader operations
- Follow standard operating procedures to guide work and solve routine problems
- Impact work quality through attention to detail

Supervisory Responsibilities
None – this is a hands-on trainee position with no managerial expectations.

Requirements & Preferred Skills
Qualifications:
- 4 National 5’s (or equivalent) with grades A-C, including 2 STEM subjects OR
- 3 Highers, including 1 STEM subject (Alternative accepted: Current or completed HNC Electrical/Mechanical relevant)
- Working towards or achieving an HNC/HND is encouraged
Experience:
- 0-1 years (or none) in Mechanical Maintenance
Skills & Attributes:
- Genuine interest in mechanical systems and new technologies
- Commitment to the 6-year combined work-and-study programme
- Logical, methodical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving
- Hands-on practical aptitude and ability to weld, fabricate, or repair
- Strong safety awareness and professionalism
- Reliable attitude, teachable, and enthusiastic learner
