Mechanical Fitter, Apprentice

Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship – Test Centre

Position Summary

We are offering a 6-year apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance at our Test Centre, including further education to HNC/HND level in the relevant discipline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical or electrical equipment
  • Support senior engineers in:
    • Troubleshooting
    • Preventative maintenance tasks
  • Apply technical knowledge from HNC/HND studies to practical work on the plant floor
  • Always follow health, safety, and environmental guidelines
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and assist with documentation
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Learn new technologies
  • Demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm, and commitment throughout the 6-year programme

Requirements

  • Achieved or working towards:
    • 4 National 5’s or equivalent A–C grades (STEM focus)
      • 2 of which must be STEM subjects
    • A minimum of 3 Highers (STEM focus)
      • 1 must be a STEM subject
  • Alternatively, candidates with HNC level qualification in Electrical or Mechanical engineering will also be considered
  • 0–1 years of experience in Mechanical Maintenance
  • Genuine interest in mechanical systems and new technologies
  • Commitment to completing the 6-year work-study programme

  • Logical, methodical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving
  • Strong practical aptitude with willingness to perform hands-on work
  • Advanced safety awareness and professionalism
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and eagerness to learn
