About Us

We’re the UK's largest ports operator with a network of 21 ports around Britain. We handle around one quarter of the UK's seaborne trade and contribute £7.5 billion to our economy every year.

It’s a story we’re proud of but it doesn’t end there. We’re transforming our business and embracing the future.

We offer a vast range of roles spanning the UK, all rooted in a culture that welcomes diversity, fosters talent, encourages internal movement and progression, and places safety as our number one priority.

We're currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to join our team. You’ll report into the Team Leader and will support maintaining port side cranes, mobile structures and fixed infrastructure. Knowledge of fault finding, using a CMMS and maintaining equipment within a live environment is key. Your background should be predominantly mechanical but some exposure to industrial electrical would be highly beneficial.

Role Details

The role is based on a 39-hour working week, with standard hours of Monday to Thursday 7:30am–4:00pm and Friday 7:30am–3:00pm, alongside participation in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support, where call-outs attract a minimum 4-hour payment, with additional hours paid at overtime rates.

Accountabilities

  • Carry out mechanical maintenance works to a variety of assets such as airbridges, cranes, vehicle ramps, pumps, and associated infrastructure.
  • Provide support and mentorship to the Semi-Skilled Engineers and Apprentices in undertaking the works in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
  • Undertake all works commensurate with both their trade and other disciplines/ contractors subject to either appropriate training or ability to carry out the works.
  • Carry out pre-emptive and reactive works to ensure the key assets and infrastructure across the port’s estate remain operational in response to the preventative inspection and servicing regime.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
