Maintenance Engineer - Colchester | Up to £42,000 + Overtime (£50k OTE)

Location: Colchester, Essex

Salary: Up to £42,000 + Paid Overtime (OTE £50,000)

Hours: 45 hours per week | Core hours 7:00am - 4:00pm (flexibility required)

A leading manufacturer of high-quality construction products is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join its established maintenance team in the Colchester area.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy manufacturing environment, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on production machinery while benefiting from regular overtime, excellent employee benefits, and long-term job security.

The Role

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing production equipment, plant machinery, and site facilities to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults including bearings, chains, sprockets, shafts, and gearboxes.
  • Maintain hydraulic systems including pumps, motors, valves, and hoses.
  • Assist with fault finding on 3-phase motors, industrial control systems, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Complete basic fabrication and mechanical repairs.
  • Support maintenance of company fleet vehicles and factory facilities where required.
  • Work safely within a heavy manufacturing environment, including occasional work at height and in confined spaces.
  • Participate in a weekend rota (currently every other Saturday) and overtime when required.

About You

We're looking for a reliable, motivated engineer who enjoys working as part of a close-knit maintenance team.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer within manufacturing, production, or heavy industry.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
  • Good knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Experience working with gearboxes, bearings, chains, and drive systems.
  • Basic fabrication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Experience with safe isolation procedures.
  • Fault finding on motors and VFDs.
  • Maintenance engineering qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, or equivalent).
