The Company:
Our client is a well-established manufacturing business based in Littleborough and is currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team on a permanent basis.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on supporting production through planned maintenance, breakdown response and continuous improvement activity across a busy manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in keeping machinery running efficiently, reducing downtime and supporting engineering projects across the site.
The Role:
The primary focus of the role is to support production by carrying out routine servicing, preventative maintenance and reactive mechanical repairs across manufacturing machinery, mechanical systems and associated site equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining plant reliability, reducing unplanned downtime and supporting machinery improvements and engineering projects. This role would suit a time-served, apprentice-trained Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with strong mechanical fitting, fault-finding, welding and fabrication skills, ideally gained within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine servicing and inspection of production machinery, mechanical systems and site equipment
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities to reduce breakdowns and unplanned downtime
- Respond to reactive mechanical breakdowns and carry out fault-finding and repairs
- Conduct essential legislative testing of mechanical equipment and systems
- Support production by ensuring machinery is operating safely and efficiently
- Identify and maintain essential engineering stock items at appropriate working levels
- Assist in identifying process improvements to reduce downtime and improve machine performance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site
- Assist the Group Engineering Manager with engineering projects, developments and site improvements
- Liaise with external contractors where required
- Work safely in line with company Health & Safety procedures and site standards
- Support maintenance activity during shutdowns, overtime periods and call-out cover where required
Essential Requirements:
- Apprentice trained in a relevant engineering discipline to Level 3 minimum
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within a similar Mechanical Maintenance / Engineering role
- Strong mechanical maintenance, fault-finding and repair skills
- Experience working on manufacturing machinery within a production environment
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support
- Flexible approach to overtime, shutdown working and call-out cover
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong awareness of health and safety within a manufacturing environment
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for occasional travel between locations

- Experience working within the textiles industry or on textile manufacturing machinery
- Experience supporting machinery improvements and engineering projects
- Knowledge of continuous improvement activity and downtime reduction initiatives
- Experience working with preventative maintenance systems
