Mechanical Operations Manager
Job Purpose
The Mechanical Operations Manager is accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of mechanical engineering services across the Stevenage R&D site, with specific responsibility for Refrigeration, LEV, Water, and general Mechanical systems excluding Central Utilities and Plant. The role provides senior technical leadership and governance, acting as the key escalation point and authority for mechanical operations. Operating through a federated model of supervisors, the Mechanical Operations Lead ensures consistent standards, operational excellence, and alignment to client and regulatory requirements.
The Responsibility For
- Experience and capability to work on mechanical and pressure systems with associated certificates of competence.
- Adherence to all current company procedures.
- Ensuring continuous improvement and drive for value for money.
- To seek opportunities to reduce costs by more effective approach to engineering solutions.
- Ensuring that all activities within Mechanical Operations are carried out in a safe manner in line with policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely raising of Operations Occurrence Reports (OOR) when an adverse situation arises that could impact client operations.
- Inform line manager when an operational statutory change is required.
- Contractual compliance for your team relating to performance metrics and SLA's.
- A Mechanical Operations team that is compliant with all regulatory and statutory requirements required by CBRE & the client including but not limited to quality, health & safety, and environmental.
- Maximum availability of engineering assets and equipment utilizing safe, efficient, planned maintenance service and fault resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of supervisors responsible for Refrigeration, LEV, Water, and general Mechanical systems.
- To be an example in conduct and behavior to those you interact with. Foster relationships with colleagues and staff in line with the clients & CBRE values.
- To represent CBRE in a positive manner and comply with any company-wide or site-based requirement.
- To manage the workload of the team including assigning and scheduling tasks / sample checking on quality and quantity of work carried out.
- Ensure the team consistently carry out their duties to CBRE & the clients' standards and comply regarding engineering excellence, health safety, and environmental standards. This would include SOPs, processes, along with any adopted procedures.
- To be an Authorised Person in one or more disciplines to which suitable allowances will be paid.
- Operate a federated leadership model ensuring consistency of standards and performance.
- Drive a strong safety culture aligned to CBRE and client standards.
- Line Management responsibilities including but not limited to Goal setting, performance reviews, training compliance, and associated line management activities.
- Team representation at both client and internal stakeholder meetings.
- Accountability for reporting of metrics where required.

Technical & Operational Delivery
- Provide technical oversight for Refrigeration, LEV, Water, and mechanical systems.
- Ensure delivery of planned and reactive maintenance against KPIs and SLAs.
- Function as senior escalation point for complex issues within Refrigeration, LEV, Water, and general Mechanical systems.
- Manage critical issues and crisis scenarios within Mechanical Operations.
- Act as or ensure adequate cover for On Call rota for Mechanical Operations.
- Asset management – critical asset review and escalation of risk.
Compliance, Risk & Assurance
- Ensure full compliance with legislative and client requirements.
- Support audits and maintain risk registers.
- Ensure compliance for team members of training records.
- Dissemination of required communications including safety moments, stand downs, central communications.
- On-time closure of all audit findings.
- Support of audit requirements.
- Compliance with GXP environments.
- BCP reviews as required.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as primary mechanical contact for stakeholders.
- Support major projects Site Minor Works in enabling works and delivery.
- Interaction with other account teams as necessary including Projects, EHS, Quality, Finance.
Commercial & Supplier Management
- Work closely with Planning team to ensure all Third-Party Contractors are scheduled and instructed in a proactive manner to achieve performance metrics.
- Manage subcontractor performance and cost control.
Person Specification
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in FM or engineering delivery in complex environments.
- Mechanical / Engineering Team Leadership.
- Good working knowledge of CBRE platforms.
- Proven capability working with teams for delivery of initiatives.
- Client interaction.
