Mechanical Project Engineer Dalkia Hinkley Point C

Role Characteristics

Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

All roles on the project require key behaviours which support the Zero Harm objective, a questioning attitude, and drive to uphold the standards of safety and quality required by this prestigious project. A committed strong work ethic is essential at all levels.

All candidates are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and experience where possible directly related to the criteria required for the role. It is acknowledged that previous Nuclear based experience will not always be possible, as such supporting with project research and how individual skills may be transferable will be important.

There are opportunities to put together strategic people plans within the nuclear sector, work on wider company people projects, deliver an excellent first-class service to employees and ensure the administration and processes that engulf working life are implemented effectively and fairly.

Summary of Role

As a Project Engineer, you will provide support to ensure the effective delivery of activities in the programme to required safety, quality, time and cost targets, while recognising and managing the impacts of the programme on the wider Project. Your role will be to build strong relationships to ensure project success.

Accountabilities

  • Driving the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements.
  • Developing and implementing strategies and plans in line with the overall programme execution plan (PEP), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised, and executed.
  • Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or programme EP strategies within their contract or package of work.
  • Monitoring and manage the progress of the schedule - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
  • Anticipating, managing, and resolving issues within the contract or package. Identifying risks and facilitating the resolution of all issues raised, developing, and updating the programme budget, and escalating any issues to the Delivery Manager.
  • Ensuring that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all project team members.

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience (as per MEH matrix)

Knowledge

  • Educated to Degree / HNC in an Electrical Engineering (LV, HV, MEP installations) or working towards HNC (Preferred)
  • Educated to Nuclear installation standards including safety critical systems
  • Working towards Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PMQ or other recognised qualification (Desirable)
  • Track record of delivering projects in complex environments, from concept to handover, within a technically complex and dynamic environment, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment. (Desirable)
  • Have experience of working on heavily unionised sites and working alongside IR managers and Trade union representatives
  • Have experience in working with Qualified equipment products and services including supporting the EQ process
  • Have experience working alongside the QA team to ensure quality compliance including all records, audits and process
  • Have an understanding of nuclear safety culture and have experience working on projects where this forms the basis of the Health & Safety agenda

Additional Qualifications/ Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Project Management and working knowledge and management experience of engineering and/or construction activities.
  • Able to demonstrate strong skills and experience in project management, financial management, change management and facilitation.
  • Proven successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
  • Experience in the design, manufacturing and installation of plant and equipment (LV, HV and MEP scope), including Nuclear grade and Nuclear safety critical plant & equipment
