Mechanical Project Engineer
Mechanical Project Engineer – Huddersfield
The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.
Altrad are currently looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team at Syngenta in Huddersfield.
Key Deliverables
- Prepare overall project scope, costs, and schedules
- Support the project manager with the development of the project programme
- Contribute to process risk assessments (PRAs)
- Liaise with construction teams to gather information—scope, estimates, methods of working, constructability, and changes
- Coordinate the design process and team(s’) activities, ensuring input from stakeholders—customers, operations, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and maintenance
- Facilitate a team of multi-discipline designers and engineers in the development of a fully detailed and approved detail design, ensuring all required aspects are considered (standards, directives, specifications, and processes)
- Manage the procurement and expedition of equipment and materials, including:
- Review and technical approval of specifications, purchase requisitions, acceptance criteria, supplier documentation, and validation of performance
- Liaise with the planning department to provide accurate resource and schedule information
- Facilitate technical and project reviews and approvals
- Manage the production, issuing, and control of project documentation deliverables, including final documentation packs

Requirements
Education & Qualifications
Degree/HND or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
HSEQ qualification (e.g., IOSH).
Preferred Experience & Knowledge
Subject to meeting the above, the following would be advantageous:
- Level 4 Project Control / Management Qualification
- CompEx certifications—ExF (Foundation), Ex11 (Mechanical), or Ex12 (Application Design Engineers)
- Awareness or conformance with:
- Pressure Directive (PED)
- CDM regulations
- 5 years’ recent experience in an equivalent role
- Industrial sector engineering in modern process manufacturing environments (preferably including COMAH Tier 1)
- Experience in:
- Maintenance
- Shutdown / outage
- Project, OPEX & CAPEX delivery
- Familiarity with functional safety, ATEX directive, and pressure equipment directives
- Project delivery lifecycle from concept through to cost savings/performance delivery and hand-over
- Engineering design process and subsequent verification through pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover
- Document control process
- Procurement & expediting processes
- Proficiency across all major engineering disciplines— mechanical, structural, piping, EC&I, civil, process, etc.
- Thorough understanding of equipment, material, and method specifications
- Knowledge of industrial plant construction, installation, maintenance, and modification processes
