Mechanical Responsible Engineer

Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) โš™๏ธ

The RE holds full technical accountability for mechanical & ventilation engineering within their area, ensuring all work is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle ๐Ÿ”.

Working to R2A2 (ED21), youโ€™ll provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance, while retaining responsibility for key engineering decisionsโ€”even when delegated ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Key Responsibilities & Experience:

  • Strong mechanical engineering background in regulated, safety-critical environments โš ๏ธ
  • Proven technical accountability & decision-making experience โœ…
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements ๐Ÿ“œ
  • Establish governance, assurance & verification processes ๐Ÿงฉ
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams & resolve complex technical issues ๐Ÿค
  • Manage technical risks effectively โšก
  • Interface with project teams, regulators & assurance bodies ๐Ÿข
  • Promote a strong safety, quality & compliance culture ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications ๐ŸŽ“

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline โš™๏ธ
  • Extensive experience aligned to a Responsible Engineer role ๐Ÿ—๏ธ
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a recognised institution ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ง
  • Able to meet security clearance & site access requirements ๐Ÿ”

Key Experience ๐Ÿ’ผ

  • Experience as a Responsible Engineer or technical authority in nuclear/high-hazard environments โ˜ข๏ธ
  • Safety case development, substantiation & regulatory engagement ๐Ÿ“Š
  • Full lifecycle delivery: concept โ†’ commissioning & handover ๐Ÿ”„
  • Managing deviations, concessions & non-conformances โš ๏ธ
  • Strong understanding of governance, assurance & gated processes ๐Ÿงฉ
  • Contribution to strategic decision-making & continuous improvement ๐Ÿ“ˆ

  • Familiarity with SEMs, Design Capability CoE & organisational structures ๐Ÿข
  • SQEP aligned with SR0699 & ED21 standards ๐ŸŽฏ
