We have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Site Engineer to join our Industrial Biomass team at our customer site in Stowmarket, helping deliver sustainable energy solutions for industrial operations.

The role will involve
Mechanical Maintenance And Operations
- Carry out mechanical repairs, fault-finding and diagnostics across plant equipment
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance and routine inspections
- Support optimal plant performance through monitoring, adjustment and system checks
- Respond to steam outages, service interruptions and emergency call-outs
- Work closely with the client’s on-site teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimise downtime.
Compliance And Reporting
- Perform statutory checks, testing and maintenance in line with steam system, LTHW, combustion and fuel management regulations
- Monitor feed water and emissions to ensure environmental compliance
- Maintain detailed, audit-ready maintenance records using MMS and HSEQ systems
- Accurately document inspections, downtime, parts used and corrective actions, including photographic evidence where required
- Support audits, risk assessments and incident reporting.
HSEQ And Site Standards
- Champion a strong safety culture aligned with AMP policies, procedures, and relevant legislation
- Promptly identify and escalate HSEQ concerns
- Support contractor management processes and permit-to-work systems
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site organisation
- Manage tools, equipment and critical spare parts to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for a proactive and skilled engineer with a strong mechanical engineering background and experience working within operational or maintenance environments. You’ll thrive in a safety-critical setting, using your practical problem-solving skills to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and support the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of biomass energy plant and associated equipment.

Essential
The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with a practical approach and a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and operational performance. We’re particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, HNC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
- Strong engineering background with practical experience in operational or maintenance environments
- Experience carrying out mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, and diagnostics across industrial plant equipment
- Experience working with steam systems, pumps, valves, and associated plant
- Biomass boiler operation and maintenance experience
- Strong understanding of HSEQ standards, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work processes
- Practical and methodical problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues safely and efficiently
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and clients
- Flexible approach to operational requirements, including participation in an on-call rota
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation.
Desirable
- BOAS Steam Operator qualification, or willingness to work towards achieving
- Experience using maintenance management and plant control systems such as CMMS, DCS, or BMS.

Additional information
Location: Muntons, Stowmarket, IP14 2AG (Candidates must live within 45 minutes of site to support on-call response)
Competitive salary: To be discussed at interview
Engineer Incentive Bonus: Earn up to £3,000 per year
Contract type: Permanent.
Working Hours
- Average of 40 paid hours per week
- Standard working hours are 08:00–17:00 with a 1-hour unpaid break
- Rotating 3-week shift pattern with scheduled days off built into the rota
- On-call rota shared across the engineering team, with additional standby allowance and overtime opportunities.
The role includes participation in an on-call rota to support operational continuity and emergency response.
- On-call standby allowance paid for rota participation
- Overtime paid at enhanced rates
- Time and a half on weekdays and Saturdays
- Double time on Sundays
- Minimum 4-hour payment for call-outs.
