Role: Mechanical Site Manager
Location: Boston, Lincolnshire
Contract Type: Contract
Sector: Building Services / Mechanical Engineering
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Site Manager to oversee the delivery of a major hospital decarbonisation programme at a live healthcare facility in Boston, Lincolnshire. The project involves the phased replacement of existing steam infrastructure with Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) systems, incorporating biomass boilers, air source heat pumps, gas-fired plant, thermal storage solutions, and associated primary distribution networks.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing the mechanical installation package across multiple plant rooms and energy centres, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme, quality, and technical requirements. This is a technically challenging project requiring strong knowledge of commercial and industrial mechanical services installations within a live hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all mechanical building services installations across multiple phases of the decarbonisation programme.
- Coordinate the installation of LTHW systems, district heating networks, energy centres, biomass plant, air source heat pumps, gas-fired boilers, pressurisation units, buffer vessels, plate heat exchangers, pumps, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
- Oversee the installation of large-diameter carbon steel pipework ranging from 10" distribution mains through to terminal connections.
- Manage welding, fabrication, testing, flushing, chemical cleaning, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, HTM guidance, healthcare standards, and industry best practice.
- Coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, commissioning specialists, and supply chain partners.
- Review technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and coordinated BIM models.
- Monitor installation quality through inspections, QA documentation, and ITP processes.
- Chair site coordination meetings and provide progress updates to senior project teams.
- Manage site health and safety, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and company procedures.
- Liaise closely with hospital stakeholders to minimise disruption to critical services during phased changeovers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
