Mechanical Technical Manager – MEP Unbundled (London, SO & Jersey)

We are seeking a Mechanical Technical Manager to lead our MEP Unbundled strategy and reduce external market supply chain dependency, delivering enhanced quality, safety, and project control across our portfolio.

Based in London, you will support design delivery in London, the South East (including a Hospital project in Jersey), covering sectors such as Healthcare, Residential, Schools, Health & Life Sciences, and Data Centres. Your Projects range from £5M – £130M with a focus on preconstruction (RIBA Stages 3-6 / BSRIA BG6 Stages 3-6).


About the Role

You will provide technical leadership and design management across allocated projects, offering expert guidance through all stages—from prequalification to completion. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining overall mechanical design authority, ensuring flawless execution of design packages.
  • Collaborating with Client, MEP Consultants, Digital Engineering Coordinators, and Specialist Designers to maximise value and risk mitigation.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement and relationship management with both internal and external teams.

Key Responsibilities

🔹 Strategic & Technical Leadership

  • Inform and drive the MEP Unbundled Strategy with our MEP Technical Director.
  • Oversee design and engineering strategy alignment with MEP consultant appointments.
  • Assume CDM and Designing for Safety responsibility.

🔹 Project & Team Management

  • Line manage Mechanical Technical Engineers and Junior Engineers.
  • Conduct granular design reviews to monitor progress and technical integrity.
  • Manage risk assessment, value engineering and stakeholder feedback.

🔹 Technical Expertise & Validation

  • Approve technical work and sign-off major plant and equipment packages.
  • Validate site installation and system operation against design specifications.
  • Remotely support Jersey Hospital project delivery.

🔹 Operational Excellence

  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership to consultants, project managers, and engineers.

Core Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record in a technical design management or MEP consultancy role at the £50M+ project scale.
  • Degree-qualified preference in Mechanical or Building Services, or evidence of equivalent competence.
  • Charted Engineer (MCIBSE/MIoB) or working toward a similar accreditation.
  • Deep understanding of MEP design life cycles, RIBA & BSRIA processes, and emerging technological advancements.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
