Mechanical Technical Officer

As a Mechanical Technical Officer at our Donnington site, you’ll have the opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining and supporting essential defence equipment, ensuring operational readiness across the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force.

Role ID: SF74597 Salary: £33,519 + Benefits Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday Employment Type: Full-time / Permanent


Key Responsibilities

As the Mechanical Technical Officer, you’ll be responsible for comprehensive through-life technical support of Test and Measurement Equipment. This includes:

  • Managing the lifecycle of specialised equipment, ensuring availabilty, compliance, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinating maintenance, calibration, inventory, and logistics activities.
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation and engineering records.
  • Supporting procurement activities and ensuring strong supplier performance management.
  • Monitoring equipment compliance, availability, and ongoing support needs.

You’ll join a specialist team dedicated to delivering effective, cost-efficient solutions, ensuring defence capabilities remain robust and reliable.

  • Experience working in a project-based environment, preferably with technical or engineering tasks.
  • Proven ability to produce or manage technical documentation (e.g., specifications, maintenance records).
  • Strong organisation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience supporting engineering or technical equipment activities (e.g., maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting).
  • The ability to prioritise across multiple workstreams and adapt to dynamic demands.

Qualifications Top Requirements

Applicants should preferably hold:

  • A qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics engineering, equivalent to ONC (Ordinary National Certificate level) or above.
  • Apprenticeship experience in mechanical, electrical, or electronic fields.
  • A valid full UK driving licence.

Security Clearance

Due to the sensitive nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
