Mechanical Technician – Days Only (Permanent)
Location: University of Bristol Contract: Permanent Salary + Shift Supplement

We’re building a brand new team from scratch at NG Bailey, supporting a flagship building at the University of Bristol. This is a rare chance to get in from the ground up, shape how we deliver here, and play a pivotal role in delivering planned and reactive mechanical building services maintenance.
You’ll work a days-only shift pattern with covering 1 in 3 weekends, focusing on high-profile maintenance across mechanical systems—perfect for a hands-on technical professional who thrives on prompt, high-quality repairs and proactive care.
Key Deliverables
You’ll be responsible for:

Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM):
- Executing scheduled inspections and servicing of mechanical plant (piping, pumps, boilers, cooling towers, etc.) in line with SFG20 and operational procedures.
- Proactively managing service contracts, logs, and compliance documents via the client’s CAFM system.

Reactive Fault Resolution:
- Quickly diagnosing and fixing faults to meet contractual SLAs and KPIs.
- Resolving minor works with professional efficiency.

Equipment & Systems Knowledge:
- Experience with HVAC, BMS (building management systems), pipework, pumps, boiler systems, and water treatment is highly valuable.
- Striving to hit (or understand future compatibility with) standards like ISO, SMACNA, or HSG252.

Collaboration & Customer Service:
- Developing strong relationships with the University’s FM team and on-site partners.
- Ensuring exceptional customer service — clear communication with plant managers is key.

We’re Looking For:
A proactive, reliable, and ethical technical contributor—someone who doesn’t need a lengthy background but brings:
✅ Hands-on experience in:
- Mechanical building services, M&E, plumbing, or HVAC work.
- Maintenance of pilot cooling towers, water reactors, expansion valves, or basic automation/trend linkage.
✅ Technical competence & qualifications (preferred but not mandatory):
- Mechanical City & Guilds (Part 1 & 2) or equivalent apprenticeship.
- Experience managing service warranties and defect databases (e.g., AutoSAM).
✅ Soft skills for the role:
- Problem-solving mindset and accountability for repairing.
✅ Commitment to clean cx:
- More of a role for those who appreciate produce data to extents like SINUSITIS.
✅ Employment standards adherence:
- Prioritises healthcare waste handling per Regulation 14, and attention to every sly detail.
