In the UK, we own, operate, and significantly develop the 370 acre top-tier COMAH site Saltend Chemicals Park (SCP), with a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses. This is strategically positioned on the UK’s busiest ports complex and at the forefront of our energy transition plans.
The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for a Mechanical Technician.
The Mechanical Technician will work as part of the efficient, effective Saltend Chemicals Park multi-disciplinary technician team, completing:
- Maintenance activities
- Breakdown support
- Installation works
- Engineering support for activities on equipment and work for px, customers and clients
You’ll be supported via:
- Personalised on-the-job training
- Coaching
- Mentoring
- Twice-yearly development and performance reviews to maintain and develop your contributions and competence
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all assigned tasks adhering to required SHEQ and business standards & timescales, including but not limited to:
- Investigation
- Troubleshooting
- Planned repair scopes
- Preventative and predictive maintenance
- Equipment installation
- Projects

Complete high-quality job reporting through:
- CMMS failure reporting
- Maintenance issue notifications
- Lessons learned (particularly on repeatable tasks such as PM’s)
- Feedback to appropriate persons

Initiate equipment registration requests for hardware/data changes from maintenance activities.

Assist other team members with:
- Identifying spares purchase requisitions
- Specifying spares requisitions
-
Complete workplace safety and condition audits as required.

Contribute to:
- Maintenance procedures
- Work plans
- Project scoping documents
- Contractor work scopes

Supervise contractor personnel to ensure:
- Technical correctness
- Adherence to site SHEQ procedures

Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance/Operations teams to review documents for fitness:
- Method statements
- Risk assessments
- Safety documentation

Understand and apply current standards and legislation, including:
- Puffer Storage and Service Regulations (PSSR)
- Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR)
- Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA)
- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)

Provide continuous out-of-hours call-out mechanical support to the Operations team.
Minimum Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 (NVQ L3) or equivalent qualification/technical aptitude in mechanics.
- Experience working in 24/7 industrial processes, including:
- Investigations
- Troubleshooting
- Planned repairs
- Predictive/preventative maintenance
- Equipment installation
- Fault-finding
- Hands-on experience with:
- Working at height
- Rotating equipment
- Valves
- Pipework
- Ability to read, understand, and utilise engineering drawings and P&ID schematics.
- Proficiency in using CMMS systems for:
- Reporting
- Trending analyses
- Identifying spares
- Specifying requisition needs
- Preventative maintenance
- Familiarity with systems of work safety, including reviewing:
- Risk Assessments (RAMS)
- Other safety documentation
