Alongside your studies you could be working on a full range of tasks supporting departments across the Trust, specialising in the production of bespoke test equipment and patient specific devices, manufactured within our dedicated mechanical workshop facility.

Applicants should be numerate, computer literate and must meet the entry requirements for the college course at Torbay or Exeter College. This currently requires a minimum of 4 GCSE's L4/C-grade including Maths, Science and English. Alternative qualifications may be accepted, subject to the admissions process.

You will undertake a fully funded, accredited college course to bolster your mechanical engineering skills, alongside in-house training. Upon successful completion of the core 3-year apprenticeship, there will be an opportunity to undertake a further 1-year consolidation/top-up training period, subject to final organisational approval. Following completion of your training, you will be qualified and working to the level set out in the attached job description. You will then be eligible to apply for permanent roles and undertake professional registration as a Registered Clinical Technologist (RCT).

Salary will be paid at Agenda for Change Band 5 Annex 21, with a current starting salary of £25,377, based on 37.5 hours per week, rising in Years 2 and 3.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hpw

Interview Date: Monday 27th of July 2026

Please note, this is a fixed term contract until 31/08/2029. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.

Candidates shortlisted must be available in person all day for interview on Monday 27th July 2026. We cannot offer virtual interviews for this post. These will take place at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Wonford, Exeter in the Medical Physics department, Exeter Oncology Centre.
