Department Overview
The Corporate Communications team manages all communication activities for Nomura, including Media Relations, Internal Communications, Branding & Marketing, and Community Affairs. As a member of the media relations team, you will play a role in promoting and protecting the reputation of the bank. We will look to you to deliver day-to-day promotion of the firm as well as developing and maintaining key relationships with journalists and people throughout the business, providing excellent media relations advice and support.
Role Description
Media Relations
- Help compile bank-related media clips to staff daily
- Identify proactive media opportunities for key businesses and functions
- Pitch proactive story ideas to reporters
- Schedule interviews for subject matter experts
- Prepare media briefing notes
- Respond to media queries when appropriate
- Review material destined for external use
- Schedule and oversee media training
- Draft, edit, review, and distribute press releases, as required
- Liaise with the firm’s European PR Agencies
- Coordinate various media-relations activities with the Communications teams in other regions
- Coordinate with other functions within the Communications team to ensure multi-channel engagement (including owned media)
- Review and approve external engagements by Nomura spokespeople

Overall Team Support
- Schedule team calls/meetings to discuss key topics, as required
- Assist other parts of the Communications team when necessary
Skills, Experience, Qualifications And Knowledge Required
- Financial communications experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- A strong sense of news judgement and engagement risk
- Attention to detail, including good proof-reading skills
- Proactive and a problem solver
- Ability to navigate a large, complex organization
- Strong Computer Skills (MS Office)
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with an emphasis on journalism, communications, public relations, or English literature.
