Position Overview
This role involves a blend of clinical and clerical duties in a Medical Assistant capacity, supporting Patient Reception, and coordinating between healthcare providers and patients across Capital Health’s offices.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Preparation & Tests
- Conducts preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature)
- Gathers and reports patient history summaries

Clinical & Administrative Support
- Cleans exam rooms, collects lab specimens
- Assists physicians/staff; selects equipment to streamline processes

Exam Room & Equipment Management
- Prepares rooms for patient encounters under direction of Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIPs)
- Maintains supplies, forms, and statistical records as assigned

Clerical Work Execution
- Handles patient registration, phone operations, appointment scheduling
- Manages medical records, dispatches reports, and maintains accuracy

Medical Testing & Coordination
- Performs EKG (electrocardiograms) and point-of-care testing
- Validates patient information (history, insurance, visit purpose)

Documentation & Organization
- Records medical info (including medication refills and alerts) in electronic health records
- Keeps rooms stocked and organized; files and manages paperwork

Primary Interactions & Coordination
- Liaisons with front office teams and ancillary departments on patient care
- Processes quote checkouts, claim filings, and discharge paperwork

Cross-Functional Duties
- Cross-trained to perform Patient Reception Rep tasks
- Prepares for NJPMP access (New Jersey’s Prescription Monitoring Program)
- Administers injections, adheres to Capital Health policies

Flexible Assignments
- Rotates among Primary Care and Specialty Care offices
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Graduation from:
- A post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by:
- The National Healthcare Association (NHA)
- The Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA)
- The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
- Any U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body
- A post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by:
- Program requirements:
- 330+ hours of instruction
- Training in:
- IM/Subcutaneous injection administration
- Pertinent anatomy/physiology
- Sterile technique, hazards/complications, emergencies
- Certification:
- Active certification from:
- AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)
- NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)
- AMCA (American Medical Certification Association)
- NAHP (National Association for Health Professionals)
- NCMA (National Certification Medical Association)
- AMT (American Medical Technologists)
- or equivalent recognized body
- Active certification from:
Experience:
- No prior experience required.
Credentials:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate: must be obtained by orientation’s end (non-licensed).
Skills & Knowledge:
- Problem-solving, insurance specifications & medical terminology proficiency
- Phone etiquette and clear, professional communication skills
- Computer literacy and data entry
- Medical record management
Competencies:
- Delegation skills (work under RNs/LPNs)
- Teamwork, flexibility, and support for patients/staff
- Multitasking in fast-paced environments
- Maintaining composure under pressure
- Accuracy in record-keeping; adherence to timelines

Compensation & Notes
Base Salary Range: $19.32–$24.13/hour
Expected Total Weekly Hours: 40 hours
