About the Elective

BCG offers an elective experience for outstanding medical students, providing a unique insight into healthcare management. As future leaders in healthcare, participants will:

  • Develop business skills tailored for the sector
  • Explore key topics within medicine, ranging from:
    • Understanding the structures and mechanics of the NHS
    • Leveraging healthcare technologies to redefine care delivery
    • Addressing challenges in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Engage with BCG’s approach to tackling industry challenges, driving sustainable growth, and creating value

This elective is not part of BCG’s recruitment process for permanent employees, but serves as an enriching exposure to consulting in healthcare.


What You’ll Do During Your Elective

Throughout the 7-week programme (starting 12 April 2027 and ending mid-June 2027), you’ll be immersed in diverse aspects of healthcare delivery, strategy, and innovation. Activities include:

  • Strategic analysis and consulting casework
  • Cross-functional collaboration with BCG’s healthcare practice
  • Exposure to research technologies, policy implications, and industry trends
  • Real-world challenges aligned with BCG’s consulting frameworks

This experience is designed to complement your medical training, offering a cross-disciplinary perspective on how business strategy intersects with patient care, policy, and technological advancement.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the following requirements to be considered:

✓ You are in your penultimate or final year of medical school ✓ This elective is as part of your formal medical school programme ✓ Availability to participate in the 7-week programme from 12th April 2027 ✓ Degree performance: Have achieved a 2:1 or higher in any relevant undergraduate degree (e.g., B.Sc. / BA) ✓ Extracurricular engagement: Display exceptional achievement or leadership in extracurricular activities ✓ Genuine interest/experience in healthcare management or related fields
