Medical Laboratory Assistant
About the Role
The Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS) at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our bustling yet supportive Cellular Pathology laboratory in Hull.
This full-time role requires a self-motivated individual who can perform a variety of essential laboratory-based tasks, including:
- Equipment maintenance
- Reagent and stock management
- Laboratory computer systems and data input
You will work closely alongside qualified Biomedical Scientists, acting as a vital part of the team. Please note: this position may transition to a permanent role upon completion of the Fixed Term/Secondment.
Key Responsibilities
To provide comprehensive support to:
- Clinical, scientific, and technical staff
- The Cellular Pathology Department through day-to-day operations

Your duties may include:
- Receiving and processing samples
- Basic laboratory testing and procedures
- Maintaining laboratory equipment
- Managing inventories (reagents/stocks)
- Handling data input and record-keeping
You will also work collaboratively with colleagues and reporting managers to deliver high-quality care and service.

- Successful candidates must demonstrate an understanding of laboratory support duties and a willingness to assist qualified staff.
About the Lab
Based in a purpose-built facility at Hull Royal Infirmary, the lab supports the integrated Cellular Pathology Service provided by Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service.
