Medical Laboratory Assistant – Microbiology Department

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Microbiology Department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Basingstoke site). The role involves:
Key Responsibilities
- Processing samples and body fluids to aid in disease diagnosis, thereby contributing to positive patient outcomes.
- Running analysers, preparing samples and reagents, ensuring quality control, reporting, and verifying results.
- Troubleshooting technical issues while maintaining high laboratory standards.
- Performing laboratory investigations according to complex and routine diagnostic procedures.
- Conducting rotational laboratory tasks based on demand.
- Performing routinemaintenance on laboratory instruments and troubleshooting as required.
- Preparing and collating quality control materials.
- Ensuring analytical results align with set parameters (in accordance with lab policies).
- Safely storing and disposing of post-analarmed biological samples.
- Collecting, sorting, and logging samples on WinPath (Laboratory Information System).
- Adhering to Health & Safety protocols for waste disposal.

About the Role
Essential to the position are:
- Strong organisation and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to delivering high-quality laboratory services.
- GCSE-level proficiency in science subjects (a scientific background desired).
- Proficiency in typing and computer use.
- Ability to participate in a 7-day service, including weekend working.
