Medical Laboratory Assistant / Phlebotomist – Vacancy

Location

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust

  • Primary site: Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital (Scunthorpe)
  • Secondary site: Community Diagnostic Centre (Freshney Place, Grimsby)

Job Opportunities Available

Two positions available:

  • 1x 18-hour per week role
  • 1x 30-hour per week role

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department, supporting both the laboratory and phlebotomy service. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy a varied workload, with a core emphasis on providing excellent patient-facing care and laboratory support.

Essential skills:

  • Current IT skills, including proficiency in computer-based data entry
  • Strong literacy and numeracy
  • Practical experience with laboratory or healthcare environments is highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and health setting protocols

Key Responsibilities

éxito diversionary working in a small team that will:

  • Support the processing and analysis of laboratory samples across both hospital sites
  • Assist with the collection of blood samples via phlebotomy (after completing mandatory competency training)
  • Record accurate patient information using digital systems
  • Contribute to a smooth workflow in both the Blood Sciences laboratory (DPoW) and Grimsby CDC

Shift Pattern Requirements

18-hour position

  • 3 x 6-hour shifts, covering:
    • Days (08:00–14:00)
    • Lates (14:00–20:00)
  • Additional commitment: Participation in out-of-hours rotas, including weekends and bank holidays

30-hour position

  • 5 x 6-hour shifts, covering:
    • Days (08:00–14:00)
    • Lates (14:00–20:00)
  • Additional commitment: Participation in out-of-hours rotas, including weekends and bank holidays

Person Specification

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good manual dexterity (essential for laboratory tasks and phlebotomy)
  • Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry
  • Collision (sic teamwork) with patients, colleagues, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
