Medical Science Expert (MSE) – Oncology (Fixed Term, 12 Months)

About the Role

We are seeking a Medical Science Expert (MSE) with 5+ years of experience in medical affairs, specialising in Oncology (preferably with a focus on GU cancers), to join our team in the Midlands region for a passionate and driven pharmaceutical client.

This fixed-term contract roles starts immediately and offers the opportunity to work in a high-performing team with a patient-centred approach, engaging both internally and externally across HCPs, peers and commercial teams.

The role involves collaboration, strategic insight and customer engagement, leveraging medical expertise to advance therapeutic strategies and support clinical programs.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Liaison & Engagement

  • Serve as a Primary Point of Contact (PPoC) in non-promotional activities, particularly during the pre-launch phase of products.
  • Coordinate and document engagements with HCPs, ensuring adherence to compliance boundaries regarding off-label, pipeline and unapproved usage discussions.
  • Independently handle medical/sciprocal enquiries, including:
    • Scientific information requests
    • Pipeline and late-stage product updates
    • Early access and compassionate use requests
    • Management of Patient Support Programmes (PSPs)
    • Medicare certification applications
  • Conduct in-field visits to respond to enquiries or execute medical tactics.
  • Engage in planning and execution of cross-functional Key Therapeutic Insights (KTI/E) engagement strategies.
  • Tier customers based on scientific profile and regularly assess local HCP/personal needs.
  • Collect, analyse, and communicate insights and expert knowledge with relevant stakeholders.

Medical Programmes & Strategy

  • Contribute to local and global medical strategy, including gathering insights from external stakeholders.
  • Participate in scientific meetings and congresses to stay updated on advancements in Oncology.
  • Develop and implement local, regional, and national medical educational programs.
  • Provide HCP training and support for medical education/sponsorship (e.g., Investigator-Mediated Education and Continuing Medical Education).

Compliance & Operational Support

  • Ensure all communications respect compliance codes, including the Standard on Medical Activities.
  • Align with internal teams to deliver medical policy compliance and investigational products.
  • Manage research/study-related matters in accordance with Investigator-Sponsored Studies (ISS) and Collaborative Research Studies (CRS) protocols.

Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, or related field (registration with appropriate bodies preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience within medical affairs (MA), pharmaceutical or biotech industries.
  • Specialisation in Oncology with a focus on GU cancers (prostate, bladder, renal) is essential.
  • Off-label strategy experience, including Managing Medical Information Teams (MMIT)-like processes.
  • Strong knowledge of UK/BSA Medical Code Guidelines.

Skills & Attitude

  • Deep scientific and therapeutic area knowledge (colorectal cancer qualifications welcomed).
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines (sales reps, internal medical teams, commercial planners).
  • Proven relationship-building and management skills.
  • Experienced in KTL engagements and ability to present science and data influence effectively.
  • Strong focus on railroaded processes, IT-based sales education tools, and medical writing.
  • Passionate about continuous professional development and scientific advancement.

Must have:

  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience in team projects with a compliance.OG healthcare background.
