Medical Science Liaison – General Medicines (Lipids/Atherosclerosis)
We are expanding our Medical Affairs, General Medicines team with a new hybrid-field-based vacancy covering the North of England, Scotland & Northern Ireland.
About the Role
As the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for General Medicines, you’ll contribute to our lipids/atherosclerosis strategy while supporting launch and established portfolio activities. This high-visibility role requires a blend of scientific expertise, clinical knowledge, and strong communication skills, with up to 75% fieldwork (both in-person and virtual collaboration with healthcare professionals, stakeholders, and external partners).
You’ll report to the Senior Medical Manager, General Medicines and ensure all activities adhere to the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industries’ (ABPI) Code of Practice in a non-promotional manner.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific and Clinical Engagement
- Provide accurate, timely, and non-promotional medical/scientific advice to healthcare professionals (HCPs), providers, and external stakeholders on company products and associated disease areas.
- Build and maintain credible, long-term relationships with scientific leaders, NHS providers, and academic centres to drive improved patient outcomes.
- Represent Medical Affairs at local/regional non-promotional engagements and collaborate with commercial teams to deliver balanced, science-based information and training.
Strategic and Operational Support
- Contribute to UK strategic planning by leveraging expert knowledge of products and disease areas.
- Develop and implement Medical Affairs plans, including advisory boards and education initiatives to address external healthcare needs.
- Support research publication while ensuring independence, objectivity, and compliance with ABPI guidelines.
- Facilitate interactions between internal R&D teams, clinical trials, and potential UK investigators to strengthen engagement in clinical development programs.

Compliance and Governance
- Ensure all activities comply with national, global, and ABPI guidelines, as well as company policies and ethical standards.
- Monitor data/accurate reporting of scientific exchanges and maintain transparency in stakeholder interactions.
Administrative and Territory Management
- Manage field-based logistics, travel, and stakeholder coordination for optimal territory coverage and efficiency.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- MSL or field medical experience (pharmaceutical/biotech preferable).
- Medical or pharmacy degree with GMC (Doctor) or GPhC (Pharmacist) registration.
- Strong knowledge of ABPI Code of Practice, GCP/GDP policies, and NHS operational landscape.
- Proven relationship-building skills with scientific leaders (industry, academic, or NHS settings).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and scientific communication (written & verbal).
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience-Level Preference
- Lipids/cardiovascular/ metabolic disease expertise (highly desirable).
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry commercial strategies and regulatory environments.

- Adaptability in dynamic regulatory and clinical environments.
- Teamwork and cross-functional collaboration (Medical, Commercial, R&D).
