Medical Secretary
Medical Secretary (Band 3) – Part-Time Role (22.5 hours/week)
About the Role
An exciting part-time opportunity has arisen within the Division of Medicine, Medical Administration Department, based in the Dermatology Department at James Paget Hospital.
We are inviting applications for a Medical Secretary (Band 3) – a highly diverse, demanding but rewarding role in a friendly and dynamic team. The role involves working 22.5 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
The Medical Secretary will:
- Provide specialist medical secretarial support to the Dermatology Department, including audio typing experience.
- Manage a high workload with confidence and enthusiasm, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Work independently and proactively, prioritising tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Contribute to a collaborative, supportive team, interacting with:
- Consultants
- Specialty Doctors
- Clinical Fellows
- Dermatology nursing team
- Booking Coordinators
- Receptionists
- Support patient care administration while maintaining professional discretion.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement, always seeking new skills and competencies.

Requirements & Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a recognised secretarial qualification (OR)
- Have sufficient proven experience in medical secretarial roles, including audio typing capability.
- Exceptional typing skills to a high standard.
- Strong organisational abilities, time management, and prioritisation skills.
- Excellent online communication (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A welcoming approach, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn, develop, and thrive in a clinical environment.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and associated with good employment references.
