Job Overview
Are you confident using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word? Do you have strong typing skills and a keen eye for detail? If you're a good communicator with a willingness to learn, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
We’re looking for two proactive and highly organised individuals to join our welcoming team in the General Surgery Department and the Emergency Surgical Ambulatory Care (ESAC) team. In this role, you’ll work closely with an experienced Medical Secretary team, providing vital administrative support in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and making a real difference in the smooth running of our services.
You’ll be liaising with a wide range of people – from medical consultants and laboratory staff to patients and GPs – so excellent communication skills are essential.
You don’t need NHS experience – just the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment and a commitment to high standards. We offer flexibility in working arrangements and a chance to be part of a team that truly makes a difference.
If you're detail-oriented, confident using Microsoft Office, have strong typing skills, are eager to learn and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

- To be a first point of contact, answering all telephone enquiries, taking and relaying messages in a polite and helpful manner, and using own judgement to establish the priority of issues and taking action as appropriate.
- To deal with incoming correspondence via email from patients, GPs and other departments, using initiative as appropriate to expedite issues and administer patient appointments when necessary.
- Ensure that correspondence from clinicians is typed, edited and sent promptly and accurately, and keep track of diagnostic reports to ensure that patients receive their results in a timely manner.
- To assist in the fast track treatment for patients with cancer and to ensure referrals to other healthcare professionals are forwarded promptly.
- To ensure patient data and records are up to date and accurate, including: checking patient outcomes are recorded correctly, administration of the RTT pathway, appointments and surgical procedures are requested, uploading clinical information as directed and facilitating transfer of care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
