Bradley David Associates is seeking an experienced Medical Underwriter to join a growing and customer-focused business. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional with recognised underwriting authority and experience in medical underwriting, ideally across Life Insurance, Income Protection, and Critical Illness products.

Job Details

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, hybrid
  • Location: Modern Bristol City office
  • Salary: £38,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience
  • Bonuses: 10-15%
  • Benefits: Market leading perks, pension, and benefits
  • Holiday Allowance: 30 days + bank holidays (38)

Key Responsibilities

  • Make fair, balanced, and accurate underwriting decisions within delegated authority levels, assessing both initial applications and additional medical evidence.
  • Manage the customer journey from application through to final underwriting decision.
  • Handle complex underwriting cases and referrals while providing support and guidance to less experienced colleagues.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including customer service teams, sales teams, reinsurance partners, and medical professionals to ensure excellent customer outcomes.
  • Maintain and develop technical underwriting expertise through ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, practices, and service standards.

About You

  • Proven experience within a Medical Underwriting environment, with the ability to accurately assess medical evidence and risk.
  • Experience underwriting across multiple protection product lines.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting manuals, processes, and industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of protection products requiring underwriting assessment.
  • Up-to-date awareness of market developments, industry trends, and regulatory changes affecting underwriting.
  • Customer-focused and inquisitive, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and identify improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of customers and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and manage deadlines effectively.
  • GR1 qualification or another recognised industry qualification would be advantageous.
