We have an exciting and innovative opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic Medicines Management team. This is a unique role for an experienced pharmacy technician who is enthusiastic about improving patient outcomes and expanding their clinical skills across a variety of care settings, including community hospitals, mental health services, domiciliary visits, and virtual wards.
You will become part of our experienced team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians delivering pharmacy services to patients across Dorset, whether in a healthcare setting or within their own homes. The post covers the Sherborne, Shaftesbury and Mid Dorset localities, offering a diverse and rewarding patient population.
Following a comprehensive induction and training programme, you will have the opportunity to spend two days per week working alongside our innovative Hospital at Home teams as part of an exciting Quality Improvement Project for a minimum of six months. This project will explore and shape the future development of the Pharmacy Technician role within this rapidly evolving service, providing a fantastic opportunity to influence service delivery and develop specialist expertise.
In this rewarding role, you will work closely with patients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure individuals gain the greatest benefit from their medicines through medicines optimisation interventions in both community hospital and domiciliary settings.

Pharmacy technicians play an important role, complementing clinical pharmacists, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team providing services either in a care setting, virtual ward or domiciliary setting.
Pharmacy technicians’ core role responsibilities will cover clinical, and technical and administrative categories.
You Should Be Able To
- Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles.
- Undertake medicines optimisation in community hospitals, virtual ward and domiciliary setting.
- Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
- Provide specialist expertise, where competent.
- Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship.
- Work with the virtual ward MDT to ensure efficient medicines optimisation
- Provide training / support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines
- Develop relationships and work with practice teams and community pharmacies.
- Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance
- Undertake clinical audits, support quality improvement measures and contribute to the Quality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services
- Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation incentive schemes and patient safety audits
- Provide leadership for medicines management systems across all services.
